The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) held an information meeting to update local elected and appointed officials to provide the status of the Rock Hill Quarry located on North Rockhill Road since the last meeting which convened June 14, 2019.

The Rock Hill Quarry is still under a cease order.

DEP stated that it has completed an investigation of the status of the mining permit requirement to remove 500 tons per year and has made a determination that the requirements have been met.

DEP’s Rock Hill Quarry webpage continues to be updated with pertinent information.

Hanson Aggregates will be submitting additional information on asbestos testing as referenced in DEP’s letter, dated September 20, 2019.

Information provided by the Rockhill Environmental Preservation Alliance (REPA) and East Rockhill Township is being reviewed and continues to be utilized as DEP gathers and reviews additional information from the Department of Health and United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to determine a standard testing procedure for all sites that contain naturally occurring asbestos in rock formations and water.
