MS4 Spring

Plant native trees, shrubs and perennials

  • Native plants have deep root systems which help them to absorb more rain water than non-natives.  They also require less maintenance than non-native plants.

Install a rain barrel

  • Rain barrels capture water from your roof before it can become polluted storm water runoff.  It is also a great source of free water that can be used to water plants or top off a swimming pool.

Reduce chemical use and never use before it rains

  • Fertilizers and weed killers can be washed off your property and into nearby waterways when it rains.

Consider alternatives to traditional pavement

  • There are many convenient pervious pavement options that reduce stormwater runoff.
