DEP Information Meeting March 6, 2020

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) held an information meeting to update local elected and appointed officials to provide the status of the Rock Hill Quarry located on North Rockhill Road since the last meeting which convened February 7, 2020.

The Rock Hill Quarry is still under a cease order.

DEP’s technical comments on the Qualitative Geologic Survey Report received from Hanson Aggregates were completed on March 2, 2020. An Erskine Environmental review letter has been received in response to the March 2, 2020 DEP letter, which is under review.

DEP and the Department of Health have held staff meetings as they continue to work together in a cooperative manner to review the list of asbestos-related questions submitted by DEP. An official response from Department of Health is pending and once received will be posted to the DEP website.

A Notice of Violation (NOV) has been issued to the Property Owner for unauthorized activity on the site and that NOV is posted to the DEP website under inspection reports.

A request from R.E. Pierson Materials has been received and approved for the removal of equipment from the site which will begin on Monday, March 9, 2020 and take approximately 4 weeks to complete. A DEP inspector will always be on site while activity is taking place. Oversized loads will have an escort vehicle. Drivers should remain alert.
