"If you build it, they may not come"

 

Community Day has been discontinued.

 

In the popular movie Field of Dreams, the builder of a baseball diamond in a mid-west corn field believes that "if he builds it, they will come", meaning past legends of the sport will visit his field. Regretfully this may only happen in films.

 

Each year for the past ten years, this has been the hope and dream of the Park and Recreation Board and township staff. Annually, the Friends 'N Neighbors Day community gathering has been held.

 

Each year the event has provided an ever increasing schedule of activities including such things as a 5K run, food, live entertainment and fireworks.

 

But, regretfully in 1999 the event was discontinued due to a perceived lack of attendance, which was confirmed by the recent parks survey.

 

For 1999 the township increased it's financial donation to the Pennridge Community Day held the Sunday following July 4th each year.

 

The Park and Recreation Board will continue to explore activities for the benefit of the residents and the community with the hope that "they will come".
