Pennridge Regional Police Completes Transition During 2002
The year 2002 saw a period of change for the Pennridge Regional Police Department. In the spring Sellersville Borough announced their intention to leave the regional department by December 31st, and purchase police services from neighboring Perkasie Borough. Beginning in September 2002 Chief David Mettin was hired to replace R. Randal Dilling who retired after seven years with the Department and 25 years in law enforcement. By October of last year the department moved to a new location, the James Farm House located at 1027 Ridge Road across from the West Rockhill Township Building. First formed in 1992, as a joint police force with West Rockhill Township, East Rockhill Township and Sellersville Borough the Regional Department was headquartered in the Sellersville Borough Hall building.
Historically the regional police concept has been an effective cost saving endeavor. Each municipal member purchases Police Protection Units (PPU’s) for a desired level of service. For the year 2003 the annual budget is $1,499,691.00 and both East and West Rockhill Township’s have agreed to share the costs equally.
Chief Mettin brings 15 years of experience with Doylestown Township, is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, and also served as a police training officer throughout Bucks County. In 1995 Mettin was promoted to the rank of sergeant. With the announced retirement of Chief Dilling, the Pennridge Regional Police Commission commenced a search. Based on the recommendation of various Chiefs across Bucks County, Chief Mettin was chosen. At the age of 37, David Mettin is the fourth Chief to command the 10 year old, 12 Officer department. As Chief “my job is to catch the bad guys and make it the best police department” he said. |
