Intelligencer Article Praises

East Rockhill Website

The website was found to fulfill all the critical municipal information requirements of an Intelligencer survey.  “Having a good Web site, East Rockhill manager Anne Klepfer says, has smoothed out municipal operations and reduced calls to their offices.  “’Our goal is really just to make public access to public information easier,’ she said.”  Find the article here.

Dumpster Make-over for Newsprint & Paper Products

If you utilize the East Rockhill Township Recycling Drop-off Center, you may have noticed our news print collection dumpster has a new look.  Gone is the walk-in news print dumpster where people erroneously left cardboard co-mingled with newspapers and in its place are three of the increasingly familiar Green & Yellow “Paper Retriever” dumpsters.

Why the change? Previously we only collected newspaper and paid to rent the dumpster and have it emptied periodically.  Now, with the Abitibi Consolidated paper retriever system we are able to recycle catalogs, magazines, newspapers, junk mail, office paper, fax paper, shredded paper notebooks and folders.   We still do not accept cardboard, phonebooks, cereal boxes, chipboard or milk cartons.

You will also notice these green and yellow dumpsters at churches, schools and not-for-profit organizations through-out the community.  Recycling at any of these dumpsters benefits East Rockhill tax payers by increasing our recycling quantities reported to DEP and contributing to the calculation of our recycling performance based grant awards.   Utilizing the dumpsters at the East Rockhill Township Recycling Center has the added benefit of creating additional revenue for the Township to fund its recycling activities because Abitibi Consolidated will pay the Township between $5.00 and $20.00 per ton collected depending on the monthly quantity collected.

Survey Results are In

East Rockhill residents say they like their newsletter and Web site; they are divided about whether the township should build a Golf Course.

That’s the gist of the survey results from a township-wide survey that closed April 24, according to a report by Word Work Communications. Printed surveys with questions about a proposed golf course and questions about the effectiveness of municipal communications were mailed to 2,400 households in March. Neighboring community residents were encouraged to respond online.

The report was delivered to the Board of Supervisors at their regular meeting May 20.  The Survey Results, a PowerPoint Presentation, tabulates individual question results, interprets key points, and includes a separate document of Survey Comments from residents that range from their opinions on a proposed golf course, to evaluations of communications efforts, to requests for park improvements.

The survey response rate was 38 percent. Thanks to the more than 1,000 survey participants.

Next

The Board of Supervisors is reviewing the report now. Any planned discussions or deliberations about their next steps will be announced in the Agendas and Minutes of board meetings.
