Additional Emergency Medical Services
from Perkasie Fire Company

May 14, 2009

In an emergency, a few minutes can be the difference between life and death. In order to reach emergencies more quickly, Perkasie Fire Company has created a dedicated unit, Unit 26, to respond to cardiac or respiratory arrest and choking incidents. East Rockhill Township gave vocal support to Perkasie Fire Company’s Unit 26 initiative, as it will improve emergency services in the township.

Responders are Better than One

Now, when a 9-1-1 call for cardiac/respiratory arrest or choking is placed, Perkasie Fire Company’s Unit 26 will be dispatched along with the nearest available ambulance.

The unit 26 rescue truck is equipped with basic equipment, including an automatic external defibrillator (AED), and will be staffed by 2 to 4 First Aid-, CPR-, and AED-trained members, including a certified Pennsylvania Department of Health First Responder or Emergency Medical Technician.

Recent Changes in EMS Services

Bucks County Emergency Health Services is in the process of upgrading the dispatching system for Emergency Medical Services across Bucks County.

With the closing of Perkasie Ambulance and Dublin EMS, East Rockhill is now covered primarily by Grand View Ambulance and St. Luke’s Emergency and Transport Service. These two responders have done a great job absorbing the additional call volume, and East Rockhill Township commends their members. Now with Perkasie Fire Company’s Unit 26, help will be one step closer in an emergency.
