Residents Provide Feedback on
Blooming Glen Road Restrictions
January 5, 2009
The Board of Supervisors considered comments from residents about the one-way restrictions on Blooming Glen Road from Branch Road to the last residential driveway north of Moods Bridge at their January 5 Work Session. The Board plans to consider additional public comments received, review the original traffic study and plan, and make a decision regarding the restrictions at their January 20, 2009, Regular Meeting. Residents are welcome to continue to submit their comments to the Township Manager for the Board’s consideration prior to that meeting.
Comments Reviewed on Jan. 5
Written comments were submitted by 2 residents and one regional resident. Four township residents also shared their thoughts and observations during the public comment portion of the meeting.
Concerns of Signage & Enforcement
Residents along Blooming Glen Road observed that, on a daily basis, motorists ignore or don’t see the one-way signage and drive the wrong way to access the township park parking lot or cross Moods Bridge to get to Branch Road.
Residents noted that the one-way designation has reduced traffic along Blooming Glen Road and suggested that if the township decides to keep the restrictions in place, the township might consider better signage, increased enforcement, and the use of a camera to enforce the restriction. It was noted that access to the park from Blooming Glen Road will be created through a planned connection from the Bucks County Community College entrance currently under construction. The design of the new entrance to the College will direct cars to exit north on Blooming Glen Road, as well as restrict traffic from continuing South.
Request to Repeal
A resident of Bridgeview Drive shared with the board that the one-way designation is a significant inconvenience to her on a daily basis and asked that they consider repealing it.
The Board explored ways of improving Park access by removing parking restrictions along Branch Road and securing pedestrian access from the Bridgeview neighborhood to Branch Road.
Background on the Restrictions
When Moods Covered Bridge re-opened in early 2008, it did so with a one-way restriction. After completing a traffic study, East Rockhill Township Supervisors, concerned about sight distance deficiencies, voted to restrict traffic across the bridge to allow northbound traffic only from Branch Road to the Glenwood Shopping Center. The Supervisors agreed to revisit their decision in 2009 to consider any new information after implementation.
